What is a store window display screen?

A store window display screen is a TV behind the shop window that faces the street, showing an offer to people walking past. This hourglass board is built for a sale's final hours: a large discount figure, three tiers and a closing time, set big enough to read through glass from the sidewalk.

This board runs on

Any screen with a modern browser. There is no media player box to buy and nothing to install: you open a link on the TV, pair it once, and change what it shows from your phone.

It is authored at 16:9, so stand the TV the usual way and the board fills it.

Questions people actually ask

Can a normal TV be read through a shop window?
In shade or at night, often yes. In direct sun, usually not: glare on the glass and the sunlight itself wash out an ordinary TV, which is why displays sold for storefronts are built far brighter. Test your TV at the time of day you most need it before deciding to buy a brighter panel.
What should a window screen say to people walking past?
Very little, very large. A passerby gives a window about as long as it takes to walk past it, so one number, one line and one end time beat a list. This board keeps the tiers for the second slide and makes the first slide nothing but the offer.
Will a TV in a sunny window overheat?
It can. Glass traps heat, and sunlight on the back of a TV raises its temperature further. Leave space for air around the set, keep direct sun off its back where you can, and check the operating temperature range in the manual. A blind above the screen helps with both heat and glare.
Does it need a media player or a computer in the window?
No. If the TV has a modern browser, open play.channelos.tv on it, pair it from your phone with the code it shows, and publish the board. A TV that is not smart can use a small streaming stick behind it. After a power cut the screen needs the internet back to show the board again.
