What is tiffin center digital signage?

Tiffin center digital signage is a TV at the counter showing the day's menu, rates, timings and payment details instead of a printed board. Any smart TV, or a cheap streaming stick plugged into an older one, can display it, and the board is edited from a phone, so a price changes in seconds.

This board runs on

Any screen with a modern browser. There is no media player box to buy and nothing to install: you open a link on the TV, pair it once, and change what it shows from your phone.

It is authored at 16:9, so stand the TV the usual way and the board fills it.

Questions people actually ask

How do I turn my TV into a menu board?
Any TV that can open a web page will do it. If the set is a smart TV, open its browser and load the board link. If its browser is unusable, plug in an Android TV or Fire TV stick and open the link there. Then fix the three settings that break unattended screens: turn off the sleep timer and the screensaver, move the picture mode off any eco setting that dims the panel after a few minutes, and switch on auto power on or HDMI CEC so the board comes back by itself after a power cut. Mount it landscape, because TV panels are 16:9, and keep counter lighting off the glass.
What is the standard size of a menu board?
There is no single standard, so size it from your furthest customer instead. The sign trade works to 25mm of capital letter height for every 3 metres of viewing distance, so someone standing 6 metres back needs roughly 50mm capitals. Measure from the panel to the back of the queue, work out the letter height that distance demands, then choose a screen big enough to carry your longest line at that height. Where the queue stands 3 to 4 metres away, a 32 to 43 inch landscape screen usually holds a full menu. Screens are quoted on the diagonal and TV panels are 16:9, so lay the board out in that shape.
How much does a digital display board cost?
Price it as three separate things: the panel, the player and the software. The panel is the big number, and a consumer smart TV is far cheaper than a commercial signage display of the same size. The difference is duty rating: commercial panels are sold to run long shifts, commonly rated for 16 hours a day, seven days a week, while consumer TV warranties frequently cover domestic use only, so read the warranty wording before buying one for a shop floor. The player is either the TV browser you already have, which costs nothing, or a streaming stick, which is the cheapest reliable add on. Signage software is usually billed per screen per month.
How can I create a menu board?
Start from what a customer can read in one pass, not from your full price list. Order the items the way people order them, right align the prices in one column so the eye scans straight down, and drop anything that will not survive at the letter height your room needs. Split the remainder across slides rather than shrinking the type. Then time the loop against real behaviour: if a customer waits about 40 seconds at your counter, the whole loop must finish inside that, so five slides at eight seconds each is your ceiling. Give one slide to timings, Wi-Fi and payment. This template is a free 16:9 board you can remix and put on a TV with ChannelOS.
