What is Italian restaurant digital signage?

Italian restaurant digital signage is a TV in the dining room or above the counter that plays your menu and offers as timed slides instead of a printed board. A portrait 9:16 layout fits a narrow wall and shows antipasti, pasta, mains, prices and a welcome card, all changed from a phone.

This board runs on

Any screen with a modern browser. There is no media player box to buy and nothing to install: you open a link on the TV, pair it once, and change what it shows from your phone.

It is authored at 9:16, so stand the TV on its end and the board fills it.

Questions people actually ask

What is the typical cost of a digital menu board?
Price it as four separate lines, not one number: the screen, the mount, whatever plays the content, and the software. A consumer TV you already own covers the first line at zero, and the mount is a one-off. The third line is the one people forget. If the TV already runs apps or has a working browser, it plays the board itself and costs nothing extra; if it does not, you are buying a player box or a stick for every screen. Signage software is almost always billed per screen per month, so multiply by screens, not by menus. Get a written per-screen figure before you call a plan cheap.
Are digital menu boards worth the cost?
The honest test is how often your menu actually changes. If prices, specials or sold-out dishes move weekly, a screen pays for itself in reprints alone, because one edit reaches every board in seconds. If your menu is fixed for a year, print is the better buy. Two conditions decide whether it works once it is up. It has to be readable: the sign trade allows roughly 25mm of capital letter height for every 3 metres a guest stands away, so measure from the queue, not the counter. And it has to stay current. If you hold a central licence or run ten or more outlets, India's menu labelling rules require calorie information on the menu, and a screen is the cheapest place to keep that accurate.
Where can I find free digital menu board templates for restaurants?
Check three things before you download anything, because most search results are graphics rather than boards. First, is the text editable, or is it a flat image where changing one price means reopening a design tool? Second, what shape is it? A TV stood on its end needs a 9:16 layout, and a 16:9 poster stretched into that slot crops the bottom of the menu off. Third, what does it output? A PNG or a PDF is a picture of a menu, not something a screen plays on a loop with timing between slides. Galleries attached to signage software, including the free ChannelOS gallery this board sits in, pass all three, because the template already is the running board.
Do I need a special media player to run Italian restaurant digital signage?
Usually not. Check the TV first. An Android TV, Google TV or Fire TV set, or any screen with a working browser, can load and play the board itself, and a cheap streaming stick covers a set that cannot. Ask one question before buying hardware: does this software need its own box, or does it run in a browser? For a portrait board, rotate the picture in the TV's own display settings if that option exists; otherwise use a rotating wall mount and build the content at 9:16, so the layout is designed portrait rather than a landscape design turned sideways. Confirm a power socket and wifi reach the mounting spot before anyone drills.
