What is a taqueria menu board?

A taqueria menu board is the screen listing tacos and their prices at a counter or a truck. As a TV loop it carries the name, the taco list priced per taco, one deal, and the hours, so a Tuesday price lives on the screen instead of on tape over yesterday's board.

This board runs on

Any screen with a modern browser. There is no media player box to buy and nothing to install: you open a link on the TV, pair it once, and change what it shows from your phone.

It is authored at 16:9, so stand the TV the usual way and the board fills it.

Questions people actually ask

Per taco or per plate: how should tacos be priced on a board?
Price the way you take the order. If people order three al pastor, the board prices one al pastor and the customer multiplies; if you sell plates of three, the board prices the plate. Mixing the two on one board is what makes a queue ask, and the answer is always the slowest thing at the counter. Whichever you choose, say it once in small type under the list rather than repeating it on every line.
Does a food truck need a different board?
The content is the same, the reading distance is not. A truck is read from further away and often from an angle, in daylight, so the type goes bigger and the list gets shorter: four fillings, priced, is a complete truck board. A truck also needs the board to survive being seen in sunlight, which favours a dark ground with light type and no photographs behind the words.
How do I run Taco Tuesday without printing a new board?
Give it its own slide in the loop and put the day and the hours on it. Because the board is a set of slides rather than one printed sheet, the Tuesday slide can be added Tuesday morning and removed Wednesday, which is the thing a printed board cannot do and the reason old promos stay up in so many shops. One number, one condition, one slide.
What if the internet drops at the truck?
Then the screen has nothing to show, and that is the honest limit of this tool today. A truck on a phone hotspot is usually fine, but if you park somewhere with no signal and the board must keep running, a player that stores the deck locally is what you want, and that is not what we do yet. Say it now rather than discovering it at a pitch.
