What is a conference welcome screen for TV?

A conference welcome screen for TV is a slide loop played on a screen in an event lobby or outside a session room. It greets delegates with the event name, lists the day sessions with start times and room numbers, names the keynote speakers, and points people towards registration, Wi-Fi and the exits.

This board runs on

Any screen with a modern browser. There is no media player box to buy and nothing to install: you open a link on the TV, pair it once, and change what it shows from your phone.

It is authored at 16:9, so stand the TV the usual way and the board fills it.

Questions people actually ask

What should a conference welcome screen show?
Four blocks, in this order. A welcome hero carrying the event name, the day and the venue, so a delegate walking in knows they are in the right building. A timed agenda listing each session with a start time and a room name, capped at about six rows so every line stays readable from across the lobby. A speaker block with names and talk titles for the next two or three sessions rather than the whole programme. And one wayfinding line for registration, cloakroom, Wi-Fi and the toilets, which is what people actually stop to ask staff about. Anything that is not one of those four is decoration and should be cut before the text gets smaller.
How big does the text need to be on a conference welcome screen?
Use the sign trade rule of 25mm of capital letter height for every 3 metres of viewing distance. A lobby screen read from 9 metres away needs capitals about 75mm tall on the glass, so on a 55 inch panel that is roughly a fifth of the screen height for your headline. Set session times and room numbers at the same size as the session name, because the time is the thing being scanned for. Check contrast as well as size: 4.5 to 1 against the background for body text and 3 to 1 for large headings keeps it legible under bright lobby lighting. Then stand where a delegate stands and read it back.
How do I put a welcome screen on the TV in a conference room?
Any TV with a modern browser will run it, and where the built in browser is old or missing, a cheap HDMI stick behind the panel does the same job. Set the screen to landscape 16:9 at 1920 by 1080, keep critical text inside a 5 percent margin from each edge so older panels do not overscan it away, and turn off sleep, screensaver and auto standby in the TV settings or the board goes dark mid session. Give the screen a wired connection where you can, since venue Wi-Fi is shared with every delegate in the room. ChannelOS pairs the screen with an on screen code, so later edits reach it without anyone touching the TV again.
How long should each slide stay on screen at a conference?
Give each slide long enough to be read twice at a walking pace, which in practice is about 8 to 12 seconds for an agenda slide and 5 to 6 seconds for a single welcome message. Keep the whole loop under a minute so somebody waiting at registration sees every slide before they are called. If the loop runs longer than that, the fix is fewer slides, not faster ones. Between sessions, put the next start time on its own slide and leave it up, because a queue forming outside a hall is reading for one number. Re time the loop on the morning of the event, once the running order is actually final.
