# Social media wall on a TV screen

Displaying social media posts and feeds on a screen as embedded layers inside a scheduled board, played from the screen's own browser alongside other content.

## What runs it

ChannelOS plays as a web page in the browser the screen already has: Android TV, Google TV, webOS, Fire TV, a Chromebox, or a laptop in kiosk mode on the HDMI port. There is also a native Android TV app, downloaded as an APK from channelos.tv rather than from Google Play. There is no media player box to buy and no per-device licence.

## What goes on the screen

- **Posts as embedded layers.** An individual post or profile embed sits on a slide as an element, beside your own heading and the rest of the board, rather than owning the screen.
- **In rotation with the real content.** The wall holds for the duration you set and the board moves on. At an event that matters, because the schedule still has to carry the sessions.
- **Scheduled to the hours it belongs to.** The wall on the show floor during opening hours, something else overnight, because the board sits on a channel timeline.
- **An embed that is refused says so.** When a site forbids framing, the board names which site refused instead of showing the browser's grey error page, which is what makes a wall look broken on a TV.

## When ChannelOS is the wrong answer

This is the use case where ChannelOS is most often the wrong answer, so read it before you choose. There is no hashtag aggregation, no feed of posts matching a tag, no moderation queue, no profanity filter and no approval step, and ChannelOS does not hold API credentials for any platform on your behalf. What it does is embed what the platforms themselves allow to be embedded, and several of them have narrowed that considerably. If you need a curated, moderated hashtag wall for a public event, buy a social wall product: that is a real category and it exists because this is genuinely hard. Use ChannelOS when the social element is one layer of a board you are building anyway.

## Questions

### Can ChannelOS show a social media wall?

It can embed social content as a layer on a board, which covers an individual post or a profile embed where the platform supports one. What it cannot do is aggregate a hashtag into a live feed of posts, because that needs platform API access and a moderation pipeline, neither of which ChannelOS has. For a curated hashtag wall at a public event, a dedicated social wall product is the honest recommendation.

### Is there moderation or approval before a post reaches the screen?

No. There is no moderation queue, no profanity filter and no approval step, which is the single biggest reason not to put a public hashtag on a screen through ChannelOS. Anything embedded is embedded as the platform serves it. On a public screen that is a risk somebody has to own, and a social wall product exists specifically to manage it.

### Why will some social sites not display on the screen?

Because the site sends a header telling browsers not to allow it inside a frame, which is a decision on their server that nothing on our side can overrule. When that happens the board shows a notice naming the site that refused, rather than the browser's own unstyled error page, and the property panel points at help for the cases where the site's own settings can be changed.

### Can the wall share a screen with the rest of the board?

Yes, and it should. The embed is a layer on a slide, so the board can carry a heading, the social element and your own content at once, and because slides hold for a set duration the screen can rotate between the wall and the schedule rather than giving the whole display to one feed.

### Does ChannelOS post to social media?

No. It is a display product only. It does not publish, schedule or read posts on your behalf and it holds no platform credentials, so nothing you do in ChannelOS reaches an audience anywhere except the screens you have paired.

### What does it cost to run a wall on several screens?

Billing is per screen per month at the rates on the pricing page, with the first screen free forever. Free screens carry a ChannelOS banner that opens into a full slide about every two minutes, which at a public event is normally a reason to be on a paid plan for the run.
