## What is a vertical trattoria menu board?

A trattoria menu board is the screen carrying the pasta list and its prices. On a TV it loops the room's name, the primi with prices, one set menu offer and the hours, so a daily special is typed in rather than chalked and photographed.

A trattoria runs this on a TV stood on its end: the venue, the priced list, one offer and the hours.

## What is on this board

The slides below are the template's real content, flattened to text. Remixing copies the
whole deck into your own workspace, where every line is editable.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why stand a TV on its end for a trattoria?

Because the wall usually decides. A trattoria tends to sit against a pillar, a narrow strip beside a doorway or a window that is taller than it is wide, and a landscape panel there either overhangs or shrinks to fit. A portrait board reads as one column top to bottom, which suits a list. What it is not is a rotated landscape design: turning a wide layout on its side re-wraps every line, so the board is authored in the shape the screen is mounted in.

### How do I mount a screen in portrait safely?

Three checks before drilling. The bracket has to allow rotation, which most VESA plates do but some fixed ones do not. The panel itself has to be rated for portrait: many consumer TVs are not, because heat rises differently through a rotated panel and the warranty often says so in a line people skip. And the cables have to leave the set without a tight bend at the new bottom edge. A commercial signage panel is usually rated for both orientations, which is one of the real things the premium buys.

### Is a screen right for a sit down restaurant?

For the door and the bar, yes. For the table, no. A screen at the entrance answers the questions people ask before they commit, which are what kind of food, roughly what price, and are you open. At the table the paper menu is still better, because it is browsed slowly, held, and shared. A restaurant that replaces its table menu with a screen has solved a problem it did not have.

### How do I run a daily special on it?

Give it the first slide and change one line each morning. The value of a screen in a kitchen that changes its specials is exactly this: the special is on the board before service instead of after it, and it comes off when the last plate goes out. If the special changes every day and the board does not, the board is training people not to read it.

## How to use it

1. Open https://channelos.tv/t/trattoria-pasta-menu-board-portrait-bce46792-16c4-4fed-92dc-bd1cf579dcd5 and press "Use this template".
2. It is copied into your own workspace, where you edit the words, prices and colours.
3. Open the player link on the TV, pair it once with the code on screen, and the board airs.

It runs in the television's own web browser. There is no media player box to buy and
nothing to install. The first screen is free.
