## What is housing society digital signage?

Housing society digital signage is a TV screen in the apartment lobby that replaces the paper notice board. It runs a looping set of slides showing the date and time, society notices, maintenance and water timings, this week's events and the guest WiFi password, updated from a phone by the society office.

The society office runs it on the lobby TV: live clock, notices, this week's events and the guest WiFi.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does a digital notice board for a society cost?

Split the cost into three lines and only one of them repeats. The screen is a one-off: any TV already mounted in the lobby works, so budget zero if one is there. The player is a one-off: a smart TV needs nothing extra, an older TV needs a stick or a small box. The software is the only recurring line, and most vendors charge it per screen per month. Decide it this way: if the society has one lobby screen and one person updating it, pick the option with no per-screen fee, because a second screen is what makes a subscription bite. This template is free to use and remix on ChannelOS, so the only spend is hardware you may already own.

### What should a housing society show on its lobby notice board screen?

Keep the loop under eight slides so it comes back around in about a minute. Four slides stay fixed: the greeting with the live date and time, the guest WiFi, the society office hours and the emergency numbers. The rest rotate: maintenance due dates, water tanker or lift servicing, this week's events, AGM and festival notices. One message per slide, one heading with no more than three lines under it, sized to read from three metres away. Anything that needs a signature, a full circular or fine print stays on paper near the letterboxes, because nobody stands in a lobby reading a screen for two minutes.

### Do we need a special display, or will a normal TV work?

An ordinary TV works if it can open a web page in a current browser. Decision procedure: if the TV is a smart TV from roughly the last five years, open its browser and load the board, and if the page renders you are done. If the browser is old or missing, add an Android TV stick or a small box, which costs far less than replacing the screen. Mount it landscape at eye level near the lift, not above the security desk where nobody looks up. Leave it on a wired power point and set the TV to switch on to that input, so a power cut brings the board back by itself.

### Who should update the society notice board, and how often?

Give it one owner, usually the society office or the secretary, and a fixed slot. Rule: anything carrying a date comes down within 24 hours of that date passing, and the whole loop gets a five minute review once a week, on the same day. Two people editing the same board is how a stale AGM notice survives for a month, so keep write access with one person and let committee members send their text to them. Keep a short list of the four fixed slides so a new secretary knows what must never be deleted. If a notice is urgent, put it first in the loop and give it a removal date the day it goes up.

## How to use it

1. Open https://channelos.tv/t/today-lobby-info-board-7579b717-c5c1-471c-90c5-5835b7af2c0d and press "Use this template". Create a free account and the template opens in your own workspace.
2. Change the words, prices and photos in the editor, from a phone or a computer.
3. On the TV, open play.channelos.tv in its own browser, pair it from your phone with the code it shows, then publish the board to it.

It runs in the television's own web browser. There is no media player box to buy and
nothing to install. The first screen is free. Free screens show a ChannelOS banner
along the bottom of the screen. Any paid plan removes it.
