## What is a church mass timings display board?

A church mass timings display board is a screen in the porch or lobby of a parish that lists the day's Mass schedule instead of a printed notice. It usually shows weekday and Sunday Mass times, confession and adoration hours, feast notices and parish contact details, and the parish office edits it from a phone.

A Kerala parish office runs this lobby TV board: Malayalam Mass times, weekly notices, ministries and contact.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which is better for a church, a projector or a TV?

Decide by where the screen goes, not by which is better. A projector suits the nave during a service, where the lights are down and the image has to be large enough for the back pew. A TV suits the porch, lobby or gate board, because it runs all day in daylight and a projected image washes out. For the timings board, size it by reading distance: allow roughly one inch of capital letter height for every ten feet a person stands away, so a board read from thirty feet needs about three inch letters. Work backwards from that to the screen size rather than buying the biggest panel on offer.

### What is the best TV for a church?

Any smart TV with a working web browser will run a timings board, so choose on three things. First, brightness: a porch or gate that catches direct daylight needs a bright panel, and a dim one will look grey by mid morning. Second, orientation: a tall Mass list reads better on a screen turned portrait, so check the mount allows it. Third, running hours: a consumer TV is built for a few hours of evening viewing, while commercial signage displays are rated for long daily runtime and usually carry a longer warranty for it. If the board runs from morning Mass to evening Benediction, that rating matters more than picture quality.

### How much do church screens cost?

Budget it in three parts and only one is unavoidable. The display is the real cost and it scales with size and brightness, so measure the reading distance first and buy the smallest panel that passes the letter height test. The mount is the second cost, and a portrait capable bracket costs a little more than a plain wall plate. The third is the player: if the TV already has a browser you need nothing, otherwise a cheap stick or small box will do. Board software does not have to be a fourth cost, since this template is free to open, remix and put on a screen.

### How do I keep the Mass times on the screen up to date?

Give one person the job and one fixed day. Most parishes edit on the same weekday every week, so the coming Sunday times, the feast notices and any funeral or adoration change all land in one sitting rather than in five panicked edits. Date every temporary notice so an old one is obvious, and delete it the day after it lapses. Keep the permanent block (daily Mass, confession hours, office contact) separate from the weekly block so nobody retypes it. This board is edited in ChannelOS from a phone or laptop and the screen picks the change up on its own, so no one has to stand at the TV.

## How to use it

1. Open https://channelos.tv/t/template-1e719495-8274-44fc-9ed9-01359289aaf4 and press "Use this template". Create a free account and the template opens in your own workspace.
2. Change the words, prices and photos in the editor, from a phone or a computer.
3. On the TV, open play.channelos.tv in its own browser, pair it from your phone with the code it shows, then publish the board to it.

It runs in the television's own web browser. There is no media player box to buy and
nothing to install. The first screen is free. Free screens show a ChannelOS banner
along the bottom of the screen. Any paid plan removes it.
