### Why stand a TV on its end for a burger counter?

Because the wall usually decides. A burger counter tends to sit against a pillar, a narrow strip beside a doorway or a window that is taller than it is wide, and a landscape panel there either overhangs or shrinks to fit. A portrait board reads as one column top to bottom, which suits a list. What it is not is a rotated landscape design: turning a wide layout on its side re-wraps every line, so the board is authored in the shape the screen is mounted in.

### How do I mount a screen in portrait safely?

Three checks before drilling. The bracket has to allow rotation, which most VESA plates do but some fixed ones do not. The panel itself has to be rated for portrait: many consumer TVs are not, because heat rises differently through a rotated panel and the warranty often says so in a line people skip. And the cables have to leave the set without a tight bend at the new bottom edge. A commercial signage panel is usually rated for both orientations, which is one of the real things the premium buys.

### How many items should a fast food board list?

Four to six, and put the sides on the same screen only if they are part of the decision. A counter board is read in the four seconds between joining a queue and reaching the till, which is roughly six lines at a glance. Everything else belongs on a printed menu or a second slide in the loop. If you sell twenty burgers, the board's job is not to list them, it is to sell the three you want ordered and to price the rest honestly.

### Should prices include tax on the board?

Show the price a customer pays at the till, whatever that includes where you trade. A board showing a pre tax number and a till showing another is the single fastest way to make a queue argue, and it is the complaint most often made about digital price displays. If you are obliged to show a tax breakdown, put it in small type under the price rather than making the customer do the arithmetic.
