## What is play school digital signage?

Play school digital signage is a TV screen at a preschool that replaces printed notices with a looping set of slides: a welcome, the programmes offered, the daily routine, fee and admission details, and contact information. It runs from any smart TV or streaming stick, and staff update it from a phone in seconds.

A play school owner runs this on the reception TV: welcome, programmes, daily routine, fees and admissions.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is a digital notice board?

A digital notice board is a screen that shows the notices a cork board used to carry: timetable, holiday list, fee dates, events and photographs, cycling automatically instead of being pinned up by hand. The practical test is whether it is readable from where people actually stand. The sign trade sizes type at roughly 25mm of capital height for every 3 metres of viewing distance, so a parent reading from 6 metres away needs headline letters about 50mm tall, which on a 43 inch landscape screen is close to a tenth of the screen height. Anything smaller belongs on a printed handout, not on the board.

### How to create a digital notice board?

Four steps, and only the first costs money. Mount the display where parents already pause, with the centre of the screen near standing eye level, about 1.5 metres from the floor. Give it a player: either the TV built in browser or a cheap streaming stick. Open a browser based signage board on it and pair the screen. Then build the loop: keep each slide to roughly eight words, hold it for seven to ten seconds, and keep the whole loop shorter than the time a parent really stands there, which at a play school gate is usually under a minute. A longer loop means half the board is never seen.

### How much does a digital display board cost?

Split it into three lines before comparing quotes. The display is a one time cost and an ordinary consumer TV is fine indoors, so size it by viewing distance rather than by price. The player is either the TV's own browser, which is free, or a streaming stick, which is the cheapest part of the job. The software is the recurring line and is usually billed per screen per month, so one screen at a reception desk costs a fraction of a ten screen campus rollout. The line most people forget is the person who updates it. A board nobody refreshes is a printed poster with a power bill, so budget an hour a week.

### What should a play school show on its screen?

Work backwards from who is standing in front of it. A parent at drop off wants today: the daily routine, the snack or meal, the next holiday and the next parent teacher meeting. A parent visiting for the first time wants the decision: age groups, programme names, timings, the fee cycle and how to book a visit. A child wants colour and their own photograph. Give each of those one slide, keep admissions to a single slide with one phone number, and put the visit us call to action last so it is the frame left on screen. Rotate the photographs weekly.

## How to use it

1. Open https://channelos.tv/t/little-sprouts-preschool-8b2219d4-04b7-4b6b-a2ac-04cb4535bb28 and press "Use this template". Create a free account and the template opens in your own workspace.
2. Change the words, prices and photos in the editor, from a phone or a computer.
3. On the TV, open play.channelos.tv in its own browser, pair it from your phone with the code it shows, then publish the board to it.

It runs in the television's own web browser. There is no media player box to buy and
nothing to install. The first screen is free. Free screens show a ChannelOS banner
along the bottom of the screen. Any paid plan removes it.
