Dhaba digital signage is a TV screen at a roadside dhaba that plays the menu and prices instead of a painted or flex board. A television with a modern browser, or a cheap streaming stick, loads the board over Wi-Fi, so rates, the day's special and sold-out dishes are changed from a phone in seconds.

### What are the 7 key elements of digital signage?

A working screen setup has seven pieces: the display, a playback source (the TV's own browser, or a stick such as a Fire TV or Chromecast), a network connection, the content itself, a schedule that says when each board airs, a mount at the right height, and a named person who keeps the prices current. At a dhaba the last two are the ones that get skipped. Hang the screen so the middle of the board sits near standing eye level, and put one person in charge of updating rates. A board nobody owns goes stale within a fortnight, and once customers catch it lying about a price they stop reading it altogether.

### What is the price of digital signage?

Three separate costs, and only one of them repeats. The screen is the big one-off, and any television with a modern browser will do, because a menu board is read from several metres away rather than inspected up close. Nobody publishes audited accounts for individual dhabas, so treat any name you see ranked as marketing rather than fact. What is knowable is what drives the number at your own place. Highway dhabas earn on turnover and on a short list of high-margin items, tandoori roti, dal, chai and cold drinks, rather than on elaborate dishes that tie up the tandoor. Count covers per hour for each daypart for two weeks, then compare the late-night truck window against the family lunch window. Most owners find one daypart is carrying the other, and the fix is usually parking, lighting and opening hours rather than the food.
