## What is a kirana dukan display board?

A kirana dukan display board is the board a neighbourhood grocery shop uses to show its current rates, weekly offers and delivery timings where customers can read them from the counter or the doorway. Run on a television instead of printed flex, the same board is edited from a phone, so a rate change takes seconds.

A kirana or grocery shop owner runs this on the counter TV to show weekly rates, markdowns, hours and delivery.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does a kirana dukan display board cost?

Price the board by how often the rates change, not by the material. A printed flex or acrylic rate board is cheapest on day one and costs again every time a price moves, so if you revise rates more than once a month the print bill quietly overtakes a screen. A television you already own is the cheapest screen: any TV with a browser, or an ordinary TV plus a low cost streaming stick, will hold a board. Before buying anything, write down how many prices you changed in the last three months. Under three, print it. More than that, put it on a screen and keep the print for the shutter and the name board.

### What should a kirana shop put on its display board?

Keep one message per screen and let the board move. A working grocery loop is six to eight screens: today rates for fruit and vegetables, two or three pantry markdowns with the old price struck through, one family or combo pack, payment and delivery (UPI accepted, delivery radius, minimum order), opening hours, and one screen for anything out of stock. At eight seconds a screen the whole loop repeats in about a minute, which is roughly how long a customer stands at the counter. Put the rates that change daily first so nobody waits through the loop for them, and never advertise a packaged item above the MRP printed on the pack.

### How big should the text be on a grocery shop display board?

Use the sign trade rule of thumb: about 25mm (one inch) of capital letter height for every 3 metres (10 feet) of viewing distance. A customer reading across a small shop at 6 metres needs roughly 50mm capitals, and someone reading from the footpath at 9 metres needs about 75mm. Measure from where people actually stand, not the width of the shop. Then check contrast: dark text on a light panel or light text on a deep ground, nothing thinner than a medium weight. The price is the thing being read, so set it larger than the item name rather than the same size.

### Can I change the rates on a digital display board myself?

Yes, and that is the test to apply before buying one. Ask the seller three things: can I edit it without calling anyone, does the edit reach the screen without carrying a pen drive to it, and what happens when the internet drops. An LED rate board with a remote usually means retyping digits one at a time. A board built as a web page on an ordinary TV is edited like any other document and updates in place. Give one person in the shop the job of updating it at the same time each week, so the board never shows a stale price. ChannelOS boards edit from a phone and the TV picks up the change on its own.

## How to use it

1. Open https://channelos.tv/t/freshmart-weekly-deals-833157c3-101e-4e53-b584-aa173d670277 and press "Use this template". Create a free account and the template opens in your own workspace.
2. Change the words, prices and photos in the editor, from a phone or a computer.
3. On the TV, open play.channelos.tv in its own browser, pair it from your phone with the code it shows, then publish the board to it.

It runs in the television's own web browser. There is no media player box to buy and
nothing to install. The first screen is free. Free screens show a ChannelOS banner
along the bottom of the screen. Any paid plan removes it.
