## What is a samaj bhavan digital notice board?

A samaj bhavan digital notice board is a television screen in a community hall that replaces the paper notice board. It cycles through a welcome slide, current notices, upcoming programmes and functions, committee contact numbers and donor or sponsor credits, and the committee edits it from a phone instead of reprinting paper.

Run by samaj bhavan and community hall committees: welcome, notices, upcoming programmes, samiti contacts, donors.

## Frequently asked questions

### How to create a digital notice board?

Start with the screen you already have. Any TV with a browser, or a TV plus a cheap streaming stick, is enough for a hall. Then decide the loop before you design anything: five to seven slides, one message per slide, roughly eight to ten seconds each, so a person walking past reads the whole board in about a minute. Size the type by distance, not by taste. The sign trade rule of thumb is about 25mm of capital letter height for every 3 metres of viewing distance, so a back row 12 metres away needs capitals near 100mm. Then name one committee member as the person who updates it, and fix a weekly day to clear expired notices. This template is that loop already built, free to remix on ChannelOS.

### What is a digital notice board?

A digital notice board is a screen showing the same information a cork board or painted board would, on a rotating loop instead of on paper. In a community hall that usually means a welcome line, current notices, dates of upcoming programmes, committee phone numbers and donor credits. The difference is not the screen, it is the update: changing a date takes a minute from a phone, so the board stays current instead of drifting a month behind. It also holds more than a physical board of the same size, because slides take turns rather than competing for one surface. Nothing is printed, so a last minute correction costs nothing but the two minutes to type it.

### What are the 7 key elements of digital signage?

There is no official standard behind that number, but a board that stays live needs seven things lined up: a screen; a mount and a power point within reach of it; something to play the content, either the TV own browser or a small streaming stick; a network connection, usually the hall wifi; the content itself, written short enough to read while walking past; scheduling, so a festival programme appears and then retires on its own; and one named person responsible for updating it. Committees usually get the first four right and lose the board on the last three. Decide who owns the updates before you buy anything, because an unowned board is a month out of date within a month.

### How much does a digital signage display cost?

The display is nearly always the largest line, so answer a cheaper question first: is there already a TV in the hall? If there is, the board costs you a mount, a power point and the software, and nothing more. If you are buying, the real decision is a consumer television against a commercial panel. Commercial panels are sold with a duty rating, commonly sixteen hours a day or continuous, and are built brighter for rooms with daylight; a consumer TV carries no such rating and costs less. For a hall used a few hours a day, a consumer TV is usually enough. Quote the wall mount and the electrical point at the same time, because both are routinely forgotten.

## How to use it

1. Open https://channelos.tv/t/community-notice-board-83d975ea-e86c-4455-8e35-0af9aeb10e55 and press "Use this template". Create a free account and the template opens in your own workspace.
2. Change the words, prices and photos in the editor, from a phone or a computer.
3. On the TV, open play.channelos.tv in its own browser, pair it from your phone with the code it shows, then publish the board to it.

It runs in the television's own web browser. There is no media player box to buy and
nothing to install. The first screen is free. Free screens show a ChannelOS banner
along the bottom of the screen. Any paid plan removes it.
