A bakery menu board is the screen over a counter listing what was baked and what it costs. On a TV it loops the bakery's name, the day's list with prices, one end of day offer and the hours, so a sold out loaf is marked rather than left advertised.

### What should a bakery board show in the morning versus the afternoon?

The same board, with two things changed by whoever is on. In the morning the list is what came out of the oven, and the bake times matter more than the prices. By late afternoon the useful screen is what is left, and that is the moment an end of day basket earns its slide. This is the case for a screen rather than a printed board: the same wall says two different true things at two different hours.

### How do I mark something as sold out?

Strike the line and keep the price. Removing it is destructive and it invites the same question all afternoon, since a customer who cannot see the sourdough does not know whether you stopped baking it or sold it. A struck line with the words still on it answers before anyone asks and needs no retyping in the morning.

### Do photographs help on a bakery board?

Rarely, and less than people expect. The counter itself is the photograph: the customer is looking at the actual croissants a foot below the screen. What the screen adds is the words and the prices, so the useful design is legible type on a calm ground rather than a picture of a pastry competing with the real one. Save photography for the offer slide and for things not on display, like cakes to order.

### Can I take custom cake orders from the board?

You can advertise them, and that is the honest limit. A board can carry the notice period, the sizes and the price, and a phone number or a code to scan. Taking the order itself happens at the counter or on the phone, and a screen that promises ordering it cannot do is worse than one that says come and ask. Keep the ask small and true.
