# Event signage and digital screens for venues

Running event schedules, room and session signs, sponsor loops, wayfinding and welcome screens at a venue, played from the screen's own browser and rewritten from a phone during the event.

## What runs it

ChannelOS plays as a web page in the browser the screen already has: Android TV, Google TV, webOS, Fire TV, a Chromebox, or a laptop in kiosk mode on the HDMI port. There is also a native Android TV app, downloaded as an APK from channelos.tv rather than from Google Play. There is no media player box to buy and no per-device licence.

## What goes on the screen

- **Session and schedule boards.** What is on, where, and when the next one starts. Placed on the hours it belongs to, so the board moves through the day on its own.
- **Room and door signs.** The screen outside the room, rewritten in under a minute when a session moves. Portrait screens are a first-class shape here, not a rotated 16:9 board.
- **Sponsor and exhibitor loops.** A rotation that has to be right because somebody paid for it, with each sponsor's slide holding for as long as you set it.
- **One announcement on every screen at once.** Broadcast controls take every screen over for the thing everyone needs to see, then put them back on schedule afterwards.

## When ChannelOS is the wrong answer

ChannelOS does not connect to event platforms. There is no integration with Eventbrite, Cvent, Swapcard, Hopin or a conference app, so a session board is not generated from your agenda feed and will not reflect a last-minute change made in that system. It does not do registration, badge printing, ticket scanning or attendee data. For a large conference whose signage must stay in step with the agenda tool, buy event signage built for that integration. ChannelOS fits the venue or organiser whose screens are a handful rather than a hundred, and who would rather rewrite a sign in thirty seconds than file a change request.

## Questions

### What is event signage?

Event signage means the screens at a venue that carry the schedule, the room and session signs, wayfinding, sponsor loops and welcome boards. In ChannelOS each is an editable show played by the browser inside the screen and scheduled onto a channel with a real timeline, so a day's programme can be laid out in advance and still be rewritten on a phone when the day moves.

### Can I change a sign during the event without going back to a laptop?

Yes, and this is the case the phone editor exists for. The editor has a real phone build, so a sign is rewritten with a thumb while you are standing in front of it, and the screen picks the change up in seconds because it derives what it shows from the schedule in real time. There is no publish step and nothing to restart.

### Can I put one announcement on every screen in the venue at once?

Yes. Broadcast controls take over every screen tuned to a channel with a single message, which is the right tool for a doors-closing or a room-change announcement, and the screens return to their normal schedule when you end it. The screens board shows you which screens actually took it.

### Does it integrate with Eventbrite, Cvent or our conference app?

No. There are no event-platform integrations, so the schedule on a ChannelOS screen is one somebody entered rather than one pulled from your agenda tool, and a change made in that tool will not appear on the screens by itself. A conference where the signage must track the agenda system automatically should buy a product built for that.

### What do we need at a hired venue where we do not control the screens?

A browser on the display, which in practice means the venue's own smart TV, any HDMI stick you bring with you, or a laptop in kiosk mode on the HDMI input. There is nothing to install on the venue's network and no server, so setup at an unfamiliar venue is opening a URL and scanning a pairing code with a phone.

### How much does event signage cost for a few days?

The first screen is free forever, and further screens are billed per screen per month at the rates on the pricing page, so a short run across several screens is one month of those screens. Free screens carry a ChannelOS banner that opens into a full slide about every two minutes, which is normally a reason to be on a paid plan for a public event.
