# Digital signage for car dealerships

Running dealership showroom boards, vehicle and finance offers, service-bay and waiting-area screens, played from the screen's own browser and edited on site from a phone.

## What runs it

ChannelOS plays as a web page in the browser the screen already has: Android TV, Google TV, webOS, Fire TV, a Chromebox, or a laptop in kiosk mode on the HDMI port. There is also a native Android TV app, downloaded as an APK from channelos.tv rather than from Google Play. There is no media player box to buy and no per-device licence.

## What goes on the screen

- **Showroom offer boards.** This month's finance offer, the models it applies to and the small print, changed on site the day the offer changes.
- **Service-bay and workshop screens.** What is included in a service, the MOT reminder, the courtesy car rules. The questions a service desk answers all day.
- **Waiting-area screens.** Something to read for forty minutes that is not a news channel. Opening hours, what else you do, the coffee machine.
- **One board across several sites.** A group offer is one channel every site subscribes to, so the manufacturer's campaign goes up the same day everywhere.

## When ChannelOS is the wrong answer

ChannelOS has no DMS or inventory integration. It will not pull stock from your dealer management system, it does not generate a vehicle board per car on the forecourt, and prices and specs on the screen are typed rather than fed. If the requirement is a live inventory wall that reflects what is actually in stock, buy automotive signage built for that feed. ChannelOS fits the dealership whose screens are campaigns, service information and waiting-area boards, and whose real problem is that nobody on site can change them.

## Questions

### What is digital signage for a car dealership?

Dealership digital signage means running showroom offer boards, finance campaigns, service information and waiting-area screens on displays instead of printed posters and pull-up banners. In ChannelOS each board is an editable show played by the browser inside the screen, so a campaign that ends on the thirty-first stops showing on the thirty-first because you placed it on those dates.

### Can it show our live vehicle inventory?

No. There is no integration with a dealer management system or stock feed, so a vehicle board in ChannelOS is one somebody typed and it will not change when a car sells. A dealership that needs a live inventory wall should buy automotive signage built around that feed.

### Can a campaign be scheduled to end on its own?

Yes, and this is the usual reason dealerships end up here. A show is placed on a channel's timeline with a date range, so a finance offer that runs for one month occupies that month and the ordinary board resumes by itself afterwards. Nobody has to remember to take it down, which is the failure mode printed offers have.

### Can head office push one board to every site?

Yes. Screens tune into a channel rather than being loaded one at a time, so a group campaign is one channel that every site subscribes to, and editing it reaches all of them in seconds. The screens board shows what each site is playing right now, which answers the question of whether the campaign actually went up.

### What hardware do showroom screens need?

Generally the screens already there. ChannelOS plays in the browser built into Android TV, Google TV, webOS and Fire TV displays, there is a native Android TV app downloaded as an APK from our own site, and existing Chromeboxes or kiosk laptops driving a display will work as they are. Older commercial panels take any cheap HDMI stick, with no per-device signage licence.

### How much does dealership digital signage cost?

The first screen is free forever, and additional screens are billed per screen per month at the rates on the pricing page. Free screens carry a ChannelOS banner that opens into a full slide about every two minutes, so a customer-facing showroom screen is normally on a paid plan. No player devices and no per-device licences.
